How Laser Hair Removal works

The introduction of Candela’s new GentleMax Pro Plus advanced technology offers faster treatments, significantly more energy, larger treatment spot size to target multiple hair follicles at the same time, and improved results on permanent hair reduction for individual with thinner/finer hair.

The class 4 medical grade Candela GentleLase Pro, GentleMax Pro Plus Nd: YAG, and Alexandrite lasers emit a beam of light to target the pigment of your hair follicles. The light generates heat within the hair follicle inhibiting blood supply and hair growth, with each treatment, the hair follicle becomes more impaired, and the hair is reduced. The Candela GentleLase Pro is suitable for clients with lighter skin and dark hair, while the GentleMax Pro Plus Nd: YAG is suitable for clients with darker skin tones. We recommend a minimum of 8-12 treatments 4-6 weeks apart. Our devices can successfully and safely treat all skin types.

How to prepare for my Laser Hair Removal Treatment?

• Shave treatment area at least 12-24 hours prior to your treatment
• Avoid chemical peels or laser resurfacing treatments at least 4 weeks before your treatment.
• Exfoliate the treatment area at least 3 days before your treatment.
• Ensure no residue fake tan is present on the skin.
• Avoid excessive sun exposure on the area being treated two weeks prior (including solariums or tanning drugs)
• Avoid using topical creams/moisturisers, perfumes to the area being treated before the appointment.
• Do not wax, use depilatory creams, or pluck hairs 4 weeks prior to laser treatment.

How many Laser Hair Removal treatments will I need?

• Depending on the hair, skin type, and body area being treated, you will require 8-12 treatments at 4-6 weeks intervals. For the facial area, treatments should be done in 2-week intervals unless recommended otherwise, for maintenance treatments every 2-3 months for permanent hair reduction.
• Hair reduction will vary depending on what stage your hair follicles are in at the time of the treatment, as each part of the facial and body area has a different hair growing cycles. 
• For optimal results it is important to complete the entire recommended course of treatments and at consistent intervals

Does Laser Hair removal Hurt?

Laser Hair Removal is virtually painless compared to waxing. Treatments may feel like an elastic band flicked against the skin. We use an advanced cooling machine in conjunction with our laser device to reduce the heat sensation on the skin. The Zimmer Cryo System delivers a constant stream of cold air throughout the treatment which minimises any discomfort.

Can I use numbing cream for Laser Hair Removal?

The sensation you feel in treatment is felt in the follicle of the hair and not on the surface of the skin. Topical numbing creams are not safe nor effective when doing Laser Hair Removal as they cannot penetrate deep enough to minimise the discomfort that may be felt in the hair follicle.

Please ensure NO occlusive creams are present in the treatment area when undergoing Laser Hair Removal.

What Age Can I have Laser Hair Removal?

We recommend that Laser Hair Removal treatments for clients are over 18 years old. This ensures optimal treatment results as hair growth has not fully developed due to changing hormonal levels.

We can provide Laser Hair Removal treatments (excluding the Brazilian area) to clients 12 years and over in certain instances.

For the Brazilian area, the minimum age is 16 and over. We will require a parent or guardian to be present at their first treatment for all clients under the age of 18. Your parent or guardian is required to sign a consent form and be present in the consultation to ensure they understand the procedure and aftercare.

 What Laser Hair Removal Machines do you use?

We use Class 4 medical grade Candela GentleLase Pro and Candela’s new advanced GentleMax Pro Plus Nd: YAG the world's leading Laser Hair Removal technology. This technology is TGA approved and uses Alexandrite technology to provide the best treatment results. 

Our advanced cooling machines, Zimmer Cryo System, are used in all our laser treatments to deliver a constant stream of cold air throughout the treatment to minimises any discomfort.

Is Laser Hair Removal treatment suitable if I am pregnant?

Based on current medical advice, we are unable to perform Laser Hair Removal treatments during the first trimester of pregnancy. During the second and third trimester of pregnancy or clients who are breastfeeding, we require a medical clearance prior to proceeding with treatment.

Can I have Laser Hair Removal Treatment if I suffer from Epilepsy?

Clients suffering from Epilepsy are advised to consult their doctor regarding having Laser Hair Removal treatment. We require a medical clearance prior to proceeding with treatment. We also offer various options of protective eyewear to always ensure your safety during treatment.

Can I have Laser Hair Removal Treatment if I’m on certain medications?

Some medication can cause photosensitivity to the skin which can increase the risk of an adverse reaction. We require a medical clearance prior to proceeding with treatment for the following medications but not limited to, oral and topical vitamin A’s, antibiotics, and certain antidepressant medication. We will require to do a test patch on you to determine if it is safe to commence treatment once a medical clearance has been obtained.

Can I have Laser Hair Remover over the top of tattoos?

Unfortunately, we cannot treat over tattoos with our lasers. We treat around tattoos leaving a 3cm gap.

Can I have sun exposure before my Laser Hair Removal Treatment?

Sun exposure can increase the risk of adverse reaction including burning, blistering and post inflammatory hyper or hypo pigmentation in some cases these reactions can be permanent and prevent you from achieving your ideal results, as the laser specifically targets pigment within the hair follicle.

Please avoid sun exposure or solariums 2-4 weeks prior to your first treatment and continue to avoid exposure to the treatment area throughout your entire treatment plan.

Please do not use any form of artificial tanning products prior to your treatment, this includes fake tan sprays or lotions and bronzing powders or creams. As these products alter your natural skin colour, they must be completely removed from the treatment area prior to your appointment, otherwise your therapist may advise you to postpone your treatment.
