Cosmelan® is a depigmenting method that has been designed to reduce the appearance of blemishes caused by excess melanin in the skin. These blemishes have various origins, which range from genetics to ethnicity, gender, pregnancy, oral contraceptive use, menopause and more. UV radiation has triggering factors that increase the incidence of newly – appearing blemishes of melanic origin and the reappearance of blemishes already established.

The cosmelan® method is a professional depigmentation peel system. It is a two-phase process to treat and reduce pigmentation with the first step performed in the clinic.

Cosmelan® works by inhibiting melanin production. Melanin is responsible for the dark pigmentation seen on the skin. The body produces it as a response to UV exposure, but hormones, ageing, and acne may also trigger it. By inhibiting a specific type of enzyme (tyrosinase) that is directly involved in the production of melanin, Cosmelan can reduce melanin production and the discolouration it causes in the skin.

what to expect

The Cosmelan® Peel is a two-step process, involving an in-clinic application of the mask, followed by continued aftercare application of specific Mesoestetic Cosmelan® products at home.

Step 1: In-Clinic Application

• Skin is cleansed and preppeed
• A thick layer of the Cosmelan® mask is applied
• You may begin to feel a slight itching or tingling sensation and tightness
• You will leave the clinic with the mask on, it must be left on at home for the next 8-12 hours
• You will be instructed on when and how to remove the mask at home
• An after-care kit will be provided

Step 2: Home Care Regimen 

• A non-active water mist will be required to keep the mask moist (not wet) this ensures that the mask will not dry out
• After the desired time, gently remove the mask  with cool water and fibrilla provided by the clinic
• Once removed, a small amount of Cosmelan® recovery is to be applied and allowed to dry before bed
• Moderate erythema and heat are to be expected. This may continue for the next 72 hours along with swelling, itching and mild flaking
• After 72 hours visit our clinic for Yellow LED Light Therapy treatment
• Mild erythema, moderate itching and flaking may occur for 1-8 weeks after the treatment
• Purchasing of additional aftercare products will be required during 1-12 weeks

Preparation

• No laser treatments or any other heat-based treatments 4 weeks prior
• No hair removal to the area 4 weeks prior
• No sunburn to the area 4 weeks prior
• No other skin treatments to applied to the area for 4 weeks.
• Prep using Brightening Peel Booster 4 weeks (Stop using 48 hours prior)
• No cosmetic injectables to the area for 2 weeks prior
• Mesopeel 30% Lactic Acid is recommended 2 weeks prior
• No hair dye or tinted brows for 2 weeks prior
• No actives, including Vitamin A for 3 days prior
• It is recommended to allow 5 full days of downtime, including the day of treatment, plus up to 4 weeks of skin shedding, this should be taken into consideration when booking treatment around social events and work.
